Seveal factors contribute to Panama's
rich biodiversity. Its location near the equator with warm
tropical waters mixing with cooler, nutrient rich, water
which circulate from the depths every winter in the Bay of
Panama combine with its proximity to deep water and
prolific oceanic currents to create one of the most
incredible fisheries on Earth. This giant biomass in turn
attracts a host of larger marine animals including
dolphins and whales.
Particularly humpbacks congregate here in large numbers,
during the Fall months to use the Bay of Panama as a
nursery to raise their calves. September, October and
November are prime months to see whales in predictable
places many times as close as Isla Taboga.
Since we are fishing a lot, we typically automatically
keep decent track of where the whales are too. In fact,
many times these areas hold a lot of fish since the whales
will feed on the organisms near the bottom of the food
chain (namely krill and other tiny crustaceans) which in
tern attract the fish higher up the food chain and
ultimately the gamefish.
Call for availability. Prices usually
run $1200 per day for the Cabo and we can accomodate a
total of 8 passengers. Trips are 8-10 hours and
usually run to the east side of the Las Perlas Island
Chain.
